Abstract:

Apoptosis, or programmed death of cells, is a physiologic process present in embriological development and in another biologic and pathologic processes. Apoptosis and mitosis together is a very important event of cycle cell, cycle in which p53 gene induces apoptosis, bcl-2 gene has antiapoptosis action, and c-myc gene both induces apoptosis and tumoral growth.

In normal colorectal epithelium, with grown cell turnover, apoptosis inhibition is achieved with malignant transformed of them. The cells with cromosomial injuries or DNA mutations are eliminated through apoptosis.

Morphological and biochemical modifications observed in deathed cells through apoptosis are mediated by caspasis family, constituted by proenzymes which through autocathalytic process generates active forms in process named „caspasis waterfall”. Caspasis activation are produced by extrinsec pathway, bounded to surface receptors and by intrinsec pathway, who suppose adulterate of mytochondrial membrane and releasing of proteins, cytochrome c and another factors.

The biochemical caracteristic of apoptosis is the break up of DNA. Colorectal tumors which apoptosis is grown have a longer evolution, are more little aggressive, are more sensitive to chemiotherapy and have a good prognostic.

Latest dates concerning to apoptosis role are used to development of new therapeutics in colorectal cancer.
