Abstract:

Branchial cysts are very rare and difficult to differentiate to nodular-cystsic goiter. We present a 51 years old women who was admitted in First Surgical Clinic Iaşi, Romania, for the development of a neck mass. The ultrasound exam revealed an anechogen tumor in contact with the left thyroidian lobe. The FNAB and cytological exam were inconclusive. The intraoperative exploration established the diagnosis of branchial cyst. We performed the resection of the tumor. Postoperative course was uneventful. Conclusions: The branchial cyst is an often forgotten diagnosis. The ultrasound exam is non-specific with different patterns. Gold standard treatment is surgical resection.
