ABSTRACT:

The training in general surgery rapidly evolved, especially due to the possibilities offered by new technologies. This training should include several successive stages of training that will allow future surgeon to specify a diagnosis, establish an operative indication, to choose and carry out an appropriate surgical technique. The main objectives of preparing residents for general surgery are: acquisition of knowledge of surgical pathology to successful make a diagnosis; the acquisition of therapeutic algorithms to establish a surgical indication or medical treatment; acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the chosen operative technique; to provide appropriate postoperative care, to recognize any postoperative complications and to resolve in a timely and appropriate manner. So, the training in general surgery has to provide basic skills behavior, rule based behavior and knowledge based behavior.
