Abstract:
Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess the results of mitral valve surgery in the past ten years, in IBCV Iasi, referring particularly to surgical volume, incidence of various pathology, and surgical conduct. Methods: We retrospectively studied the medical records of 617 consecutive patients, who received mitral valve replacement (410) and mitral valve reconstructive procedures (207), operated in Cardiovascular Institute Iasi, between 2000-2010. We also analyzed concomitant surgical procedures and the number of mitral repairs. Results: In the studied group, CABG was associated in 7.89% of cases (n = 41), aortic valve replacement in 17.91% of cases (n = 93), aortic and tricuspid valve replacements in 2,89% of cases (n = 15). Of the 617 patients, 304 (49.27%) had mitral insufficiency, 125 (20.25%) mitral regurgitation and stenosis, and 189 (30.63%) mitral stenosis. In 68.09% (n = 207) of patients with severe mitral regurgitation were performed reconstructive mitral procedures. Operative mortality was 1,3%. Conclusions: The incidence of degenerative mitral valve disease is increasing along with increased severity of basic mitral disease, the number of diabetic patients, patients over 65 years, emergency surgery and the number of male patients.
