LAPAROSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY – CASE REPORT

Abstract:

Starting from a case that we operated in our clinic, the paper takes into discussion the aspects regarding the use of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in the treatment of obesity. We present a 39 year-old woman with morbid obesity and gallstones (206 kg weight, BMI of 70 kg/m2) who underwent a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and cholecystectomy. The postoperative course was uneventful, the patient being discharged from the hospital 4 days after operation. Weight loss of the patient after operation was spectacular, with dropping the body weight to 93 kg during the first year after the laparoscopic procedure. Then, the excess abdominal skin was removed during three scheduled interventions in the Plastic Surgery Department. The first plastic surgery operation removed 4 kg of excess skin from her abdomen. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a useful and efficient method in the treatment of morbid obesity with very good outcomes. Different plastic surgery procedures are necessary to remove the excess skin after the weight loss.
